Charleston Habitat for Humanity (CHFH) is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put Gods love into action by building homes, communities, and hope. CHFH is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. Charleston Habitat for Humanity provides affordable home ownership opportunities for working families of moderate income in the cities of Charleston and North Charleston. Since its establishment in 1989, Charleston Habitat for Humanity has built 88 new homes, completed 20 major renovations, and changed the lives of more than 600 Charleston community members. The ReStore is a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center that sells new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Proceeds are used to build homes, community, and hope locally and around the world. It is located at 731 Meeting Street in Charleston, SC. In addition to providing domestic housing solutions, Charleston Habitat for Humanity supports ongoing construction efforts in Honduras. Forty-five homes in La Ceiba, Honduras have been built thanks to tithes from Charleston Habitat for Humanity to the international mission.

The Charleston County Aviation Authority (CCAA) owns and operates the Charleston International Airport (CHS), Charleston Executive Airport (JZI) on Johns Island and the Mount Pleasant Regional Airport (LRO). Chartered in 1970 by the State of South Carolina as a special purpose district, it is responsible for managing, operating and developing all public airports in the Charleston County Airport District. The Aviation Authority coordinates its activities with the Federal Aviation Administration and the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. The Aviation Authority District is governed by a 11-member board. The South Carolina House and Senate delegations representing Charleston County each nominate three members (approved by the governor) and one member is jointly appointed by the Charleston County Council and the Charleston City Council. The mayors of the City of Charleston, City of North Charleston and Town of Mount Pleasant, the chairman of Charleston County Council and the chairman and vice chairman of the Charleston County Legislative Delegation serve as ex-officio board members. The appointed members serve four-year terms.
