Depuis 1975, l’association Chiens Guides d’Aveugles d’Ile-de-France a pour mission de sélectionner et d’éduquer des chiens pour devenir des guides pour aveugles. Les bénéficiaires sont les personnes déficientes visuelles de l’Ile de France et ses départements limitrophes tels l’Aube (10), le Loiret (45), l’Oise (60), l’Yonne (89), et l’Eure et Loir (28). L’éducation et le suivi durent en moyenne dix ans et est estimée à 25 000 euros (soins, examens médicaux, éducation, alimentation). Le chien est remis gratuitement à la personne déficiente visuelle. L’association, œuvre de bienfaisance, est affiliée à la Fédération Française des Associations de Chiens Guides d’Aveugles (FFAC) et de l’International Guide Dog Fédération. Le chien guide - Le chien guide bénéficie d’une éducation de haute qualité. Fluidité, évitement des obstacles… l’animal simplifie la vie de son maître en trouvant le passage pour piéton ou l’arrêt de bus. Il répond à 50 ordres différents et sait même désobéir lorsqu’il en va de la sécurité de son maître. - Un guide tout terrain. Le chien guide a le droit d’entrer librement et gratuitement dans tous les lieux ouverts au public (commerces, cinémas, salles de spectacles, taxis, hôtels, maisons d’hôtes etc.), grâce à la loi du 11 février 2005 qui a été étendue l’année dernière aux chiens guides en éducation. - Les chiens naissent dans un centre d’élevage puis partent de 2 à 10 mois en famille d’accueil, suivi par un professionnel de l’école. Ils vont devoir enseigner la propreté, à bien se tenir en maison et au travail, la marche en laisse, les bases de l’obéissance, à être sociable, à être à l’aise dans tout type d’environnement (gare, ville, centre commercial, marché, Paris...) et lui faire prendre les transports en commun régulièrement (train, bus, métro). - Dons, legs, donations ou assurance-vie restent le premier mode de financement de l’éducation des chiens guides d’aveugles puisque l’association dispose de très peu de subventions.
