(CFSSWMI) originated in 1891 as the National Children's Home Society for the District of Michigan "to secure for every child the same love and the same opportunity that we would have our own children receive should they be left orphaned and friendless." The first child was taken into our care on September 28, 1891, followed by hundreds of orphaned children who we helped by finding them permanent homes. Serving the Quad City region in western Illinois and eastern Iowa, the Child Abuse Council leads community efforts to eliminate child abuse and neglect by strengthening children and families through treatment, education and prevention. We are a regional, non-profit agency with more than 40 years experience providing child abuse prevention, education and treatment programs for children and families in the bi-state metropolitan area and surrounding communities. Our goals for every child served are (1) a safe and nurturing home, (2) a secure parent-child relationship, and (3) an environment supporting successful growth and development.

The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) provides a child-friendly atmosphere for children and their families who are experiencing an investigation, prosecution, or treatment of sexual or physical abuse. The CAC cooperates with the local MultiDisciplinary Team (MDT) which is made up of professionals from law enforcement, the District Attorney's office, medical, mental health, the Department of Social Services, and victim advocacy services.

With a "Whole Family Approach" to breaking generational cycles of abuse, neglect, and poverty, we train and equip Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) and Mentors for foster children, at-risk youth, and families in our community.
