Nestled in the picturesque Allegheny Mountains, the City of Altoona is the principal metropolitan center for Blair County, PA, which serves a population of approximately 124,000. Altoona is a third-class city, operating under a home rule charter form of government, and home to approximately 44,000 residents in nearly 10 square miles. It was founded by the Pennsylvania Railroad and is home to the Horseshoe Curve, second largest Pennsylvania State University campus, and the Double A professional baseball team, the Altoona Curve. The City employs approximately 250 professional, competent and dedicated staff with extensive institutional knowledge. Amarillo is the 14th-largest city in the state of Texas, the largest in the Texas Panhandle, and the seat of Potter County. A portion of the city extends into Randall County. The population was 173,627 at the 2000 census. The Amarillo metropolitan area has an estimated population of 236,113 in four counties. In July 2009, the population was estimated at 189,389. In 1913, Amarillo became the first Texas city and the fifth in United States to use the council-manager form of municipal government, with all governmental powers resting in a legislative body called a commission. Amarillo's commission is composed of five elected commissioners, one of whom is the mayor of the city. The mayor and each commissioner serves a two-year term. The role of the commission is to pass ordinances and resolutions, adopt regulations, and appoint city officials, including the city manager. While the mayor serves as a presiding officer of the commission, the city manager is the administrative head of the municipal government, and is responsible for the administration of all departments. The city commission holds its regular meetings on Tuesday of each week.

Community Development's focus is on the construction and rehabilitation of housing, neighborhood revitalization in areas that are income eligible as well as funding for public facilities improvements. Housing rehabilitation programs include: Emergency Rehabilitation, Urban Homestead Program, Home Repair Loan Program, Rental Rehabilitation Program, Deferred Loan Program, Exterior/Interior Rehabilitation Program, Paint and fix Program and the Downpayment Assistance Program. This department also provides demolition funds for the razing of abandoned and dilapidated housing. Community Development may elect to assist public service agencies with their projects from time to time which includes public education on fair housing issues. Additionally, the department provides support assistance to numerous internal departments by providing GIS mapping, data collection, demographic analysis, and other comprehensive planning activities. For example, the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Parks department, Transportation (CATS), and Economic Development departments utilize us for redevelopment, district, and master planning. The department also manages the Historic Preservation process by accepting applications and monitoring guideline compliance. Other functions include coordination of the Anderson Indiana Main Street (AIMS) activities downtown.

With over 20,000 residents, the county seat, and located 14 miles from Port Freeport and 28 miles from Houston, Angleton is positioned perfectly for business and residential development. The population within 10 minutes from downtown Angleton is roughly 23,000, and within 30 minutes the population swells to 200,700. Angleton is located strategically to many transportation services and corridors to meet the transportation needs of any family or business.
