California Health Sciences University was founded in 2012 and is the first university of its kind in the Central Valley. CHSU offers a local option for those seeking post-graduate and doctoral programs and to help remedy the shortage of health care services offered in the Valley. Students can enjoy the unique combination of high quality of life, affordable cost of living and plentiful career opportunities the Valley provides. The College of Pharmacy opened in 2014 and was the first program offered because of the demand for pharmacists in the region. CHSU launched their Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016, with plans to accept students as early as 2020. The university plans to open up to 10 post-baccalaureate colleges to train health care professionals in the coming years. The timing and specific discipline for each new school will be determined based on the need and opportunity for job placement within the region. California Health Sciences University College of Pharmacys Doctor of Pharmacy program has been granted Candidate status by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. California Health Sciences University, proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine has been granted applicant status with the American Osteopathic Associations Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). The proposed CHSU College of Osteopathic Medicine is applying for accreditation and can not solicit nor accept applications for students until provisional accreditation is achieved.
The California Healthcare Interpreting Association (CHIA) is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to improving the quality and availability of language services in the delivery of healthcare. The organization was founded as the California Healthcare Interpreters Association in 1996 by group of interpreters and program managers. The name was changed in 2003 to Interpreting to better reflect CHIA’s mission of serving the public interest and interests of LEP patients, rather than serving as a strictly professional association of interpreters. CHIA’s diverse membership includes interpreters, physicians and other healthcare providers, hospitals, interpreting agencies and language-service companies, educators, and government policymakers.
