CLH Pipeline System (CLH-PS) was created in May 2015 following the privatisation of the Government Pipeline and Storage System (GPSS) by the UK Governments Ministry of Defence. The network was acquired by the Spanish CLH, a European leader in the downstream refined oil storage and pipeline logistics sector that through international expansion has become a global reference for the industry. Although CLH-PS is new to the UK it is a subsidiary of the CLH group which has a long history of success. The network, previously managed by the Oil and Pipeline Agency, has been providing a critical strategic infrastructure service to the UK for more than 75 years. The acquisition of GPSS places CLH-PS in the forefront of storage and transportation of fuel in the United Kingdom. Through its 2,000 kilometers of pipeline and 15 storage terminals around England and Scotland, the company distributes ground and aviation fuels. The network supplies some of the UKs major civil and military airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead and Manchester. CLH-PS also offers fuel logistical support to blue chip clients within the Oil industry. Delivery of fuel by pipeline is the most environmentally friendly and efficient way to transport fuel. While a road tanker would allow only a maximum of 30,000 liters to be loaded at a single time, the throughput of a pipeline is considerably higher, reducing the impact of having significant numbers of tankers and the impact they would make on road congestion and exhaust emissions. CLH-PS is the only independent network in the UK dedicated to the storage and distribution of fuel through pipelines. CLH-PS key priority is to become a benchmark in quality, safety and efficiency within the industry.
