A l’origine, les caisses de crédit municipal ont été créées afin de lutter contre l’usure, c’est-à-dire le prêt à des taux excessifs. Le premier "​ Monte di Pietà "​ a ouvert ses portes à Pérouse, en Italie, en 1462. Celui-ci était défini comme un établissement de bienfaisance dans lequel la population pouvait emprunter à des taux modérés en contre partie du dépôt d’objets de toute nature. Pérouse choisit comme emblème le Griffon. Cet animal mythologique, doté d’un corps de lion, d’ailes et d’un bec d’aigle gardait les mines d’or d’Apollon dans le désert de Scythie. L’image modernisée de ce cerbère sert encore aujourd’hui d’emblème au Crédit Municipal de Toulon. En France, le premier Mont de Piété a été créé à Avignon en 1577. En 1643, le Roi, Louis XIV autorise 58 villes françaises à se doter d’un Mont de Piété. L’établissement toulonnais est créé en 1821 par une ordonnance royale de Louis XVIII. Les monts de piété, rebaptisés Caisses de Crédit Municipal, sont autorisés à recevoir des fonds publics à partir de 1918. Une loi de 1954 les autorise à consentir des prêts aux fonctionnaires et assimilés avec prélèvement direct sur le salaire : le précompte. La loi bancaire de 1984 du 24 janvier intègre les Caisses de Crédit Municipal au système bancaire Français. Elles peuvent désormais réaliser toutes les activités bancaires pour les particuliers. Une loi de 1992 confirme aux caisses la qualité d’Etablissement Public Administratif communal de crédit et d’aide sociale, ainsi que le monopole du prêt sur gage. La commune, siège de chaque caisse, est considérée comme l’actionnaire unique. Le personnel est intégré à la fonction publique territoriale. Chaque caisse est indépendante et exerce les activités de son choix.

The Canadian Malnutrition Task Force (CMTF) is an ad hoc committee of the Canadian Nutrition Society whose mandate is to prevent, detect and treat malnutrition. A three year cohort study conducted by CMTF revealed that 45% of Canadian adults are malnourished upon admission to hospital. The study also identified barriers within hospitals that prevent patients from eating food to ensure they will be discharged from hospital in a nourished state. Malnourished patients stay 2 - 3 days longer and as a result they cost the health care system $2000 more compared to well-nourished patients. The CMTF advocates for mandatory nutrition risk screening, which is the first step in the Integrated Nutrition Pathway for Acute Care (INPAC). The CMTF mantra is "Eating Matters"​ and we need to make it matter in Canadian hospitals.
