Nato nel 1994, PROFIBUS e PROFINET Italia è parte di Profibus & Profinet International (PI), la più grande organizzazione no-profit per la comunicazione industriale, un network mondiale formato da 27 associazioni nazionali presenti nei diversi Paesi con oltre 1400 aziende associate, 51 centri di competenza, 27 centri di formazione e 10 laboratori. PROFIBUS e PROFINET Italia – P.I. raggruppa in Italia oltre 90 aziende che condividono le tecnologie PROFIBUS, PROFINET e IO-LINK standard di comunicazione adatti ad un'ampia gamma di applicazioni per l’automazione manifatturiera, di processo e ibrida, in grado di abbattere le barriere di comunicazione e di interoperabilità tra apparecchiature di produttori diversi.
