Le Conseil d'Architecture d'Urbanisme et de l'Environnement (CAUE) est issu de la loi sur l'architecture du 3 janvier 1977. Il assure des missions de service public pour la promotion et le développement de la qualité architecturale, urbaine et environnementale. Organisme départemental, c'est une association à but non lucratif pour la promotion de la qualité architecturale, urbaine et paysagère . Le CAUE est membre de la Fédération Nationale des CAUE et de l'Union Régionale des CAUE de Midi-Pyrénées.

Le CAUE a pour objet la promotion de la qualité architecturale, urbaine et paysagère avec pour missions : • l’information et la sensibilisation du public, • la formation des maîtres d’ouvrages et des professionnels, • l’information et le conseil aux particuliers qui désirent construire, réhabiliter ou rénover, afin d’assurer la qualité architecturale des constructions et leur bonne insertion dans le site environnant, • le conseil aux collectivités locales sur leurs projets d’urbanisme, d’architecture ou d’environnement. Sa consultation est gratuite, et son financement est essentiellement assuré par des fonds publics. Pour les particuliers, des permanences de conseil architectural sont assurées par des architectes conseillers.
