The smallest contribution from the most unlikely source can be the most rewarding element of a film. Those people deserve to be praised. And sometimes they deserve to share the blame. That’s why we write our letters.

WE ARE DEAR LEADER. We produce high-end sunglasses and send part of our profits to regime critical groups inside North Korea. We want to change the perception of the phrase DEAR LEADER, so its no longer associated with a North Korean Dictator, but people with talent, heart, and devotion. Therefore, we find new DEAR LEADERS (artists, activists) that design sunglasses in collaboration with award winning design agency KILO design. Our first point of interest is the worlds most isolated country, North Korea. We support Flashdrivesforfreedom.org and Rimjin-gang. Both organisations work tirelessly to pass on information about the outside world to the North Korean people. In the hope that once the North Korean people realise theres an alternative to the Kim dynasty, the North Korean regime will collapse. Siamo un gruppo di professionisti di varia formazione: arte, architettura e design, comunicazione e fundraising, tecnologia, foto e video, scienze antropologiche, pedagogia e psicologia. Nel 2016 abbiamo dato vita a un’associazione, DEAR – Design Around Onlus, che si occupa di umanizzazione degli ambienti di cura attraverso progetti che si muovono nell’ambito delle discipline creative e dei linguaggi contemporanei. Il nome racconta la doppia anima dell’associazione: DEAR può essere letto come un acronimo, Design Around, ma in inglese è un aggettivo che esprime un legame, una relazione. Il design, nel senso più ampio del termine, ruota attorno alla persona e alle sue esigenze, si adatta agli aspetti legati alla sfera emotiva, all’accoglienza e al benessere psicofisico, senza tralasciare quelli più tecnici, frutto di uno studio preciso e rigoroso, attento alle specificità dei destinatari. Ogni giorno siamo impegnati in progetti che coinvolgono, oltre ai pazienti, tutti gli attori dell’ambiente di cura, dal personale sanitario alle famiglie. Quello che vogliamo fare è lavorare sull’accoglienza nelle sue diverse forme, sia a livello architettonico sia a livello occupazionale. Il nostro primo progetto, su cui siamo attualmente impegnati, è Robo&Bobo, un innovativo percorso didattico-laboratoriale su programmazione, digital fabrication, elettronica e grafica digitale, pensato per trasformare l’esperienza negativa dell’ospedalizzazione in un’occasione per avvicinare i ragazzi adolescenti e preadolescenti al mondo delle nuove tecnologie. La prima edizione di Robo&Bobo, realizzata presso il reparto di Oncoematologia Pediatrica dell’Ospedale Infantile Regina Margherita di Torino, ha coinvolto 171 ragazzi in 322 attività laboratoriali e più di 20 professionisti.
