A research unit at York University, the Dahdaleh Institute for Global Health Research is committed to effectiveness, excellence and equity in global health. We conduct research, teach and form partnerships to address 21st century global health challenges. Led by Dr. James Orbinski, we carry out projects in three areas: Global Health & Humanitarianism, Planetary Health and Global Health Foresighting.

DAHLEM is an engineering company headquartered in Essen, Germany, with offices in Darmstadt, Würzburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Montenegro and Albania. It was founded in 1937 in Essen and is still an independent, owner-managed company. The business activities are concentrated in the fields of wastewater, water, energy and infrastructure. The first relations with foreign countries started already in the early 40s of the last century - today DAHLEM works worldwide. The water industry is undergoing major shifts. Climate change, demographic change and a discernible investment backlog in the water management infrastructure confront us with serious challenges. The sewage water management systems are intended not only to serve the environment and health, but also to conserve resources and save energy. The expectation of sustainability and efficiency is growing steadily. Science and practice are required here to identify new possible solutions and to test them in practice. How efficient are stormwater tanks? How does climate change actually work - what does this mean for municipalities? How can organic pollutants be eliminated in sewage treatment plants? What contribution can urban water management make to renewable energies? How can energy from wastewater be generated? Questions that we explore in cooperation with universities, various competence centers, expert committees and working groups. Founded in 1871, our company is now in its fifth generation of family ownership in the town of Lahr in the beautiful Black Forest. We are an international supplier of packaging and displays for luxury and lifestyle products. Our roots are in the traditional specialised trade for watches and jewellery, where we are still the market leader.
