La FAI-AR est née du mouvement artistique des arts de la rue qui sest développé en France à partir des années 1970. Elle est même la seule formation artistique dans le monde dédiée aux écritures de lespace public. Lartiste, metteur en scène et scénographe urbain Michel Crespin en fut linitiateur et larchitecte. Laboratoire de recherche et dinvention, la FAI-AR na aucune définition prédéterminée de ce que sont ou doivent être les arts de la rue. Elle nest ni une académie ni un conservatoire : on ny enseigne pas de matières gravées dans le marbre mais on y transmet outils, techniques, connaissances acquises au fil de leur pratique par des artistes eux-mêmes en recherche et en questionnement. Elle nimpose pas formes et esthétiques, elle ne formate pas. Il revient aux artistes dont elle accompagne lémancipation décrire lépopée sensible et poétique qui se déploie à lère numérique au cœur des villes, des paysages et des territoires. Le monde change, les arts évoluent, les artistes en sont les acteurs. La FAI-AR questionne évolutions techniques et esthétiques et les intègre à un programme pédagogique résolument prospectif. Léquilibre est recherché dans les formats de lintimiste au monumental-, dans les protocoles de création de lindividuel au collectif-, dans la variété des thèmes et des lieux de travail. Litinérance constitue une des modalités singulières de cette formation. Chaque apprenti est choisi pour sa singularité, ses compétences, la sincérité et la puissance de ce quil a à dire au monde.
