FAIR, Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research, is a new international accelerator facility for the research with antiprotons and ions. It will be built in cooperation of an international community of countries and scientists. On October, 4th 2010, the international owners founded the FAIR GmbH and the countries'​ representatives signed a treaty under international law (Convention, Final Act). The facility will be financed by a joint international effort of so far ten member states. The Federal Republic of Germany together with the State of Hesse is the major contributor to the construction, the current nine international partners - Finland, France, India, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom - bear ca. 30% of the construction cost. FAIR will be a host laboratory for basic research for about 3000 scientists from about 50 countries.

Michigan State University (MSU) operates the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) as a user facility for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC), with financial support from and furthering the mission of the DOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics. Hosting the most powerful heavy-ion accelerator, FRIB enables scientists to make discoveries about the properties of rare isotopes in order to better understand the physics of nuclei, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications for society, including in medicine, homeland security, and industry. User facility operation is supported by the DOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics as one of 28 DOE-SC user facilities. As one of 28 DOE-SC user facilities, FRIB provides researchers with one of the most advanced tools of modern science to study rare isotopes, or short-lived nuclei not normally found on Earth. FRIB hosts the most powerful heavy-ion accelerator, enabling scientists to make discoveries about the properties of rare isotopes, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications for society, including in medicine, homeland security, and industry. We’re an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing codes and guidance for health and residential care facilities.
