Finding Yellow was established over 45 years ago as the Cessnock Hostel by local families to care for disabled family members. Our name changed in July 2013 and we have expected into Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter region but our purpose is still the same, "Inclusion for people of all abilities". We are committed to a brighter future for people of every ability to empower them to realise their potential. Finding Yellow offers a full range of services, from Community Participation & Supports, Supported Independent Living (SIL), Independent Living Options (ILO), Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Social Circle outings and Getaways/Holidays. As a small not-for-profit organisation we are able to respond quickly and be flexible in the services we deliver, tailoring our support to focus completely on the individual. We respect diversity, work collaboratively with the community and other providers to provide high quality services, delivered professionally and with integrity. Finding Yellow started back in 1978 when a group of Cessnock families came together with one goal: to improve the care and support services available for people with disability in the Hunter region. Our organisation grew over the decades and in July 2013 it was renamed Finding Yellow. ‘Finding’ means that the staff are focused on assisting and empowering our clients to choose their life’s path; it suggests a search and an on-going journey. ‘Yellow’ is a happy colour which lifts our spirits. It’s associated with a bright summer’s day, beautiful flowers and is an optimistic and cheerful hue. Finding Yellow has an unwavering commitment to discover better resources, develop stronger community networks and improve facilities for our clients.

We support families affected by amputation or limb absence through a range of sporting initiatives and social inclusion, sporting initiatives and emotional wellbeing projects designed to positively affect both physical and mental health. Isolation is a huge problem for many amputees. It has been proven that quality of life and even life expectancy is greatly reduced without social inclusion, with as many as 30% of vascular amputees not surviving to one-year post amputation. Findjobs, a member of The Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raiSE) develops mobile apps in different languages to connect jobs to non-executive jobseekers effectively. Together with NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute), Findjobs also developed and piloted a smart job kiosk to assist offline resident jobseekers who do not have a smartphone or data plan to access easily to nearby job opportunities. We believe strongly in delivering jobs to the community in order to meet the needs of individuals, and strive in connecting offline jobseekers and online employers together.
