Chaque jour, les habitants de ce territoire – genevois, vaudois et français – vivent le Grand Genève dans leurs déplacements, leur vie professionnelle ou personnelle, leurs choix de consommation et leurs pratiques sportives ou culturelles. Le Grand Genève est ainsi une réalité quotidienne pour près d’un million de citoyens et son intégration transfrontalière se poursuit au fil des ans et au gré des événements. De manière moins visible – mais tout aussi déterminante pour l’organisation et le développement du territoire –, les choix de localisation des particuliers et des entreprises et les flux financiers qui résultent des différentes activités humaines (salaires, fonds frontaliers, flux commerciaux) tissent une toile d’interrelations denses, qui contribue chaque jour un peu plus à construire cette intégration régionale. Or, cette intégration est dynamique : le bassin de vie transfrontalier du Grand Genève connaît une croissance que d’autres lui envient à juste titre, mais qui entraîne certains défis à relever pour les collectivités. Les performances et l’image du territoire le rendent en effet attractif pour les entreprises (plutôt en Suisse) et pour les résidents (plutôt en France). De 2006 à 2012, le Grand Genève a ainsi accueilli environ 15’000 habitants et 12’000 emplois par an, dépassant les projections démographiques initiales.
