Grounded Upcycling exists to solve a critical social need, to reduce harmful, greenhouse gas emitting waste streams from entering landfills. Organic waste makes up roughly 25% of all landfill waste and contributes vast amounts of methane to enter our atmosphere. This affects our impact of the climate systems and changes the very balance and harmony of our planet. Our team aims to rethink waste by creatively repurposing organic byproducts (like "spent" coffee grounds) by giving entrepreneurs, small businesses and consumers the power to choose closed-loop products. By extending the life of organic byproducts, we hope to educate, inspire, and change people's perceptions around spent resources and reimagine our "throw away" culture. We aim to redefine what "waste" means in our society by using business as a force for good.

Groundit's mission is to reduce the carbon footprint of café's within Montreal and transform their waste into a high-quality organic compost. By combining the right amount of coffee grounds with green-waste of coffee shops (i.e. tea bags, cardboard, compostable cups and food residue), we produce a rich soil amendment that is safer for gardeners and farmers to use.
