About Us: GDS Instruments designs, develops and manufactures materials testing machines and software used for the computer-controlled testing of soils and rocks. This technology is used to evaluate the mechanical properties that are key in geotechnical and earthquake engineering design. Karl Snelling (Managing Director), Jerry Sutton (Technical Director) and Clayton Dodd (Sales Manager) have worked at GDS for more than 40 years. This combined experience ensures customers can expect a consistency in the GDS approach of its equipment and its support. Brief History: In 2011 GDS were awarded the coveted Queens Award for “Enterprise in International Trade”. In 2012 GDS became part of the Judges Scientific plc group of companies. Since being founded in 1979, it is estimated that GDS products have been used to help achieve 1000 Phd's. GDS products have been used in many world renowned commercial developments including the Three Gorges Dam in China, the Millau Viaduct in France, the Vasco da Gama Bridge in Portugal, Terminal Five at Heathrow and the new Crossrail links in London. GDS employs over 80 permanent members of staff at their offices in Hook, Hampshire, UK, as well as working with a network of agents spanning 40 countries. GDS UK based staff include 3 PhDs, 8 qualified geotechnical engineers, 4 software designers, 4 hardware designers and 5 electrical/electronics specialists, allowing GDS the ability to design, build, test and ship their products directly to the customer. Gdynia Container Terminal (GCT) is a full-service container and heavy-lift handling facility, located in the Port of Gdynia. GCT has historically served as a feeder port connecting Poland with the hubs in Bremerhaven, Hamburg and Rotterdam as well as a load centre for Polish exports to the United Kingdom. In 2015, GCT completed its deepwater port development program to offer its global shipping line customers a deepwater berth for vessels up to 19,000 TEU (400 m LOA) with an initial draft of 13.0 m and planned maximum draft of 15.0 m. The development project also covered the construction of new stacking yards, the expansion of the rail terminal and the purchase of equipment, including super-post-Panamax quay cranes and eRTGCs. GCT enjoys excellent road and rail connections. Notably, the elevated highway link with the Tri-City Bypass and the North-South A-1 Highway add to GCT’s competitive advantage in terms of accessibility to the hinterland. GCT is a member of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), a subsidiary of the multinational conglomerate CK Hutchison Holdings Limited (CK Hutchison), the world’s leading port investor, developer and operator. The HPH network consists of 52 ports located in 27 countries throughout Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, the Americas and Australasia.
