Le Girl Geek Dinners (o GGD) nascono da un’idea di Sarah Blow. Le GGD sono cene o incontri destinate a donne appassionate di tecnologia, Internet e nuovi media. Sono delle opportunità speciali per incontrare e socializzare con donne interessanti durante una cena. Vengono organizzate in tutto il mondo e sono eventi unici e assolutamente divertenti. Sono cene senza scopro di lucro e organizzate da un gruppo di volontarie. Lo scopo di queste cene è far conoscere e unire le donne che lavorano in questo settore, quello dell’hi-tech, trasformandolo in una comunità, in cui chiaramente anche gli uomini sono benvenuti. La speranza è di vedere questi incontri moltiplicarsi in giro per il mondo. Le cene sono Girls only. In realtà, ci si incontrano anche uomini, ma ammessi a partecipare solo come invitati speciali di una donna e in numero limitato ad alcuni eventi. Come sono nate le GGD? Sarah Blow, una software engineer inglese, stanca di ritrovarsi in nettissima minoranza alle conferenze tecniche e di essere scambiata per una persona del reparto marketing o qualsiasi altra cosa tranne che per un tecnico decide di organizzare una cena per donne che lavorano nell’IT. Era la Londra dell’agosto del 2005.

Girl Guides South Australia (GGSA) was established in 1912 and today it is the largest youth organisation for girls and young women in South Australia; with 2000 youth members and 500 volunteer Leaders and adult Members. GGSA provides a non-formal education program that is dynamic, flexible and values-based. Girls and young women are fully supported in safe and friendly environments where they can have a say in decision-making and activities be listened to and respected, train and receive support in life skills, and have their best interests considered and upheld. GGSA is an organisation that welcomes and actively seeks members from all societal groups and is a Member of Girl Guides Australia (GGA) and a Member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). We provide a non-formal education program including camps, outings, adventures and projects, through which each Girl Guides member is supported to develop their unique identity and own way of making a positive contribution.
