As the largest city workers’ union in Southeast Texas, HOPE represents approximately 13,000 municipal employees dedicated to improving equal opportunity, economic growth, education, liberty, and justice for all. Since winning its first collective bargaining agreement with the City of Houston in 2008, HOPE has grown its membership to include public workers in every city department.

When 'Hope Against Hope', we allow ourselves to dream of brighter days to come even when prospects for the future are grimmer than the depressing present. The summer of 2014, an Ebola outbreak cost the lives of thousands of West Africans in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Thousands of children were orphaned, and many were ostracized by their communities, fearful of contracting the virus. Local orphanages sprung into action and did a remarkable job of caring for these children, but they quickly became overwhelmed. We initially started Hope Against Hope, a 501(c)(3) organisation, to help these orphans, a few pieces of clothing at a time, by organizing used clothing and school supplies drives. Today Hope Against Hope strives to assist orphanages across the African continent. Join our effort by collecting and donating used clothes, school supplies, and toys to an African orphanage.

Hope Builders, a nationally recognized program, prepares 18-28 year old young adults with the skills needed to secure quality jobs with Orange County employers who are seeking vetted and dependable employees. Over 28 months, Hope Builders’ hard skills training in business, construction, IT or healthcare is coupled with life skills, supportive services, job placement and links to ongoing education. Young adults who successfully complete training are linked to quality job opportunities that offer advancement. Under the guidance of its board of directors and key advisors, Hope Builders’ 100 members, Hope Builders ensures its innovative programs meet the needs of both Orange County’s business and young people.
