farming
Hope's Harvest RI improves the livelihoods of local farmers, increases food security for our most vulnerable residents, and gets everyone engaged in strengthening the food system by eliminating on-farm food waste in Rhode Island. Hope’s Harvest RI mobilizes volunteers to rescue food from local farms that would otherwise go to waste and distributes it to local hunger relief agencies. An efficient and effective solution to the twin challenges of food waste and food insecurity, farm-based food recovery (known as “gleaning”) strengthens the local food system and makes communities less dependent on food shipped from thousands of miles away. There are over 250 gleaning projects across the United States. Rhode Island’s first gleaning project, Hope’s Harvest RI started in the 2018 growing season and – with the help of volunteers and local partners, including 25 farms and 17 food pantries – has rescued and distributed over 115,000 pounds of fresh produce to communities experiencing food insecurity. Hope’s Harvest RI is fiscally sponsored by Farm Fresh Rhode Island, a registered 501c3 organization. Your contribution puts fresh, healthy, local food in the hands of our friends and neighbors in need: https://hopesharvest.org/donate/
We are an Australian charity with a goal of eliminating death & disease caused by Malaria in Kenya's Kisumu East and Kisumu West sub counties by distributing long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINets) to children aged 3-5 yrs. Without intervention, this age group will record a high prevalence of Malaria, in some cases causing death and causing working parents to forfeit their employment obligations to take care of them and in so doing, the poverty cycle continues. Help us reduce the prevalence of Malaria in Kisumu, Kenya - BUY A NET!
