Illustraciencia nace en el año 2009 como un premio internacional de ilustración científica. Edición tras edición, este proyecto se ha convertido en un punto de encuentro de la comunidad de ilustradores científicos de alrededor del mundo. El objetivo de Illustraciencia es dar a conocer el trabajo de los ilustradores, crear sinergias entre profesionales, divulgar la importancia de la ilustración científica a la sociedad y acercar la ciencia a la ciudadanía a través del arte. Para ello, en cada edición se organiza una exposición itinerante para promocionar las 40 obras seleccionadas. Además, también se organizan talleres, cursos y actividades de diferentes niveles para promocionar los valores de la ilustración científica a la sociedad. El premio, organizado por la Asociación Catalana de Comunicación Científica (ACCC), ha recibido financiación de la Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) y el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) y cuenta con la colaboración de empresas privadas, museos y otras instituciones.
