KNVTS is de afkorting voor ‘Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging van Technici op Scheepvaartgebied’. De KNVTS, gevestigd in Rotterdam, is een vereniging die tot doel heeft om ontwikkelingen te stimuleren in de maritieme techniek. De vereniging zet zich enthousiast in voor het verspreiden van technische kennis binnen de maritieme sector en stimuleert innovatie, ontwikkeling en onderwijs. Om dit te bereiken worden diverse activiteiten ondernomen. Deze bestaan o.a. uit: het geven van lezingen voor leden (en introducés), de lezers informeren over alle KNVTS gerelateerde activiteiten in het maandblad "SWZ Maritime"​, deelname aan vakbeurzen, het organiseren van excursies, het organiseren van congressen en het uitreiken van prijzen. De grondslag voor het succes van deze activiteiten berust op het uitgebreide (nationale en internationale) netwerk van de besturen en de leden. De KNVTS bestaat uit een aantal regionale afdelingen binnen Nederland en elke afdeling heeft zijn eigen lokale bestuur. Elk afdelingsbestuur legt verantwoording af aan het hoofdbestuur, dat op zijn beurt eindverantwoordelijk is voor alle beslissingen en financiële zaken. Per regio wordt, door het bestuur van de betreffende afdelingen zelf, jaarlijks een lezingen- en activiteitenprogramma samengesteld. Vanuit het hoofdbestuur worden overkoepelende activiteiten geïnitieerd. De vereniging telt momenteel circa 2000 leden en ongeveer 100 donateurs. De KNVTS werkt nationaal en internationaal enthousiast samen met (zuster)verenigingen die dezelfde doelen nastreven als de KNVTS. Zo zijn er binnen Nederland het CEDA, het KIVI NIRIA en de studentenvereniging ´William Froude´ waarmee regelmatig gezamenlijke lezingen en symposia worden georganiseerd. Buiten Nederland heeft de KNVTS goede banden met het Gallois Genootschap en is het aangesloten bij de Central European Marine Technology (CEMT) Council, waarin ook de zusterverenigingen uit andere europese landen in deelnemen.
