The school was established in 1985 and is accredited by the British Council. We run courses in General English, IELTS and Cambridge Exam Preparation, Professional and Business English and University Pre-Sessional Courses and are proud to be an official IELTS test centre. Our mission is to be the best English language school we can be and to give our students the best experience they can have in every aspect of their stay while they are at LSI. We have a strong focus on best practice and we strive to be the best in all we do. We are members of English UK, the world’s leading language teaching association, with more than 400 members – all accredited by the British Council. We are also members of Business English UK, the national association of accredited training centres who specialise in providing English courses for professional people worldwide. We are regularly inspected and accredited by the British Council, the UK's international cultural relations body. LSI Portsmouth was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in October 2018 and was found to 'exceed expectations'​ in all areas of the school.
