Lexington School District Two is steps away from downtown Columbia, South Carolina's capital city and home to the University of South Carolina. In addition to having three rivers in our backyard -- with walking trails and water-related activities -- there are numerous attractions for every interest, from sporting events to art and history museums, concert venues, weekend farmers'​ markets, and a world-class zoo and botanical gardens. Lexington Two is home to 15 schools, all of which are being renovated and, in some cases, expanded as part of a package of improvements passed by voters. That package also includes three new schools -- an elementary school and an Innovation Center for career and college readiness programs, both opening in fall 2018, and another elementary school that opened in fall 2017. Many schools in the district are within walking distance to the area's neighborhoods -- symbolic of the close bond between the school district and its residents. Lexington Theological Seminary is the oldest seminary of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), leading the newest form of online education, shaping church leaders with excellent & flexible programs. Lexington Theological Seminary is an ecumenical seminary that thankfully embraces the wide diversity of denominations and theological perspectives. The Seminary offers a unique family of programs with flexibility to meet the diverse needs of people who wish to pursue a theological education. We are sensitive to the unique needs of students at various stages of life: recent college graduates, second-career seekers and persons in special situations. Students are not required to move to campus to complete their theological education. The Seminary attempts to integrate theological study with ministerial practice and personal faith formation. Every course contributes directly to the formation for ministry and the practice of ministry while providing a critical foundation for theological reflection and for relating one’s own leadership to that of the church. Coursework is explicitly linked to the congregation in which a student is participating. Students go beyond simply understanding the Scripture, theology or how to prepare a sermon; students learn to interpret the concepts being studied for the Church and to apply that knowledge in the actual setting of their congregation.
