Medical Motor Service of Rochester & Monroe County, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing transportation services to children, adults, and senior citizens with specialized needs. We provide or arrange over 475,000 trips per year serving nearly 6,100 residents of Rochester and Monroe County who are disabled and/or unable to use traditional transit services. Few, if any, non-profit organizations in the Rochester area serve as many people as Medical Motor Service of Rochester and Monroe County, Inc. We offer a wide array of safe, accessible and affordable transportation solutions including: medical car services, shopping shuttles, senior center and elder care services and individualized contract services. As the only non-profit agency with this sole focus, Medical Motor Service plays an important role in the everyday lives of many people throughout Monroe County.

Out of options, they banded together with insurance professionals and organized medicine to form a new breed of insurance company: the physician-owned medical professional liability insurance carrier. Eventually these new kinds of companies were launched throughout the nation. These new companies differed from the commercial insurance carriers, in philosophy and in extent of commitment to their insureds. They pledged to provide affordable insurance protection, and also to find ways to minimize risk among their physician colleagues. In 1977, those newly established companies formed the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) to provide a forum for exchanging information and solving problems. The PIAA would also serve as an advocate for an affordable and dependable medical liability insurance market. Just as MPL organizations face a changing environment, so too did PIAA. In 2017, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to change the Association’s name to the Medical Professional Liability Association. This name better positions the Association to keep pace with the change its members and the evolving MPL community are experiencing.

Every year, millions of individuals around the world die due to a shortage of the necessary medical supplies available for them according to the World Health organization. To make matters worse, according to the National Academy of Medicine, the United States sees an estimated $765 billion of usable medical supplies go to waste every single year. Hoping to use the surplus of medical supplies in the US to our advantage, the Medical Reallocation Initiative is a humanitarian aid organization founded by bright and hard-working UC Berkeley students hoping to make a positive difference in the world. Through our efforts, we help facilitate and finance the shipment of surplus medical supplies from various facilities in the United States to hospitals and clinics abroad that need them. By partnering with other local organizations to meet this goal, we are able to help get these supplies to the individuals that need them most and save countless lives along the way. Since its creation, MRI has already helped facilitate the transportation of shipments of medical equipment and supplies. These supplies include hospital beds, surgical operating tools, and more. So far, nearly $4 million worth of medical supplies has been shipped thanks to the hard work of MRI. And throughout the next few years, we hope to help send millions more.
