Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University has a long history dating back to 1882, first starting as an Academy and finally gaining its status as a university in 1984. Bachelors programs are available in a number of disciplines, including Fine Arts (courses include photography, tiles and ceramics, carpet design, calligraphy, sculpture, costume making, and graphic design), Architecture, and Science and Letters. Graduate students can then continue their education at the Institute of Science and Technology (programs include Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy and Proficiency in Art, as well as many others), or the Institute of Social Sciences, where they can undertake a graduate program in many subject areas, including History of Art, Turkish Language and Literature, or Cinema and TV. There is also a Conservatory within the University offering courses in Music and Performing Arts, and a Vocational School offering a Textiles Program. Since 2002, the University has also been offering an Erasmus Exchange Program for its students. The University also includes the Resim Heykel Müzesi (Painting and Sculpture Museum). The collection boasts more than 2,000 painting and 400 sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Mimbre are a female-led producing company, creating acrobatic theatre for outdoor and unusual settings, touring nationally and internationally, with a strong digital presence. We collaborate across the Creative Industries, as consultants and creators. We run a vibrant local youth programme and an Artist Development Programme for physical performers. We use circus and movement innovatively as a physical language to illuminate human connections. We pull down barriers to reach beyond social, financial, and cultural boundaries and facilitate everyone’s place within the arts. In all our work we promote a positive, diverse, and inclusive image of cis and trans women as well as non-binary people. We make at least two productions each year, including at least one tour, typically reaching around 20,000 live audiences. In the last five years, our digital reach has been 3.5M. Partners include Stockton International Riverside Festival, The Lowry, the RSC and Dior. Our youth programme, Mimbre Youth, provides learning and expression for those historically excluded from the arts. It includes classes, community days, performance projects and progress routes. Delivered in and supported by our local borough of Hackney, it focuses on access, inclusion and excellence, and enables every child to thrive, regardless of means or abilities. Our Artist Development Programme advances circus and leadership through professional development initiatives, artistic research and knowledge sharing. We focus on mid-career performers, women, non-binary artists and those from under-represented backgrounds. A collaborative approach permeates all aspects of our work, from our company structure to our relationship with our performers, audiences and participants. Working with a wide variety of artists, technical innovators and educators, across art forms and borders allows us to continuously enhance our artistic vocabulary and create bold, challenging and highly skilled work.
