A partir dos anos 60 a Mapei deu início à sua estratégia de internacionalização para estar mais perto das exigências locais e reduzir ao mínimo os custos de transporte. Atualmente, o grupo industrial é composto por 70 empresas associadas com 64 fábricas que operam nos 5 continentes em 31 países diferentes, todas dotadas com laboratório de controlo de qualidade. O principal centro produtivo e de distribuição do Grupo Mapei tem sede em Robbiano di Mediglia, na província de Milão, uma moderna fábrica que garante um sistema de gestão de qualidade, ambiente e segurança conforme as normas ISO 14001, EMAS e OHSAS 18001. Mas a excelência do Sistema de Qualidade Empresarial Mapei é também evidenciada pelas certificações de qualidade ISO 9001 obtidas pelas Filiais do Grupo em qualquer parte do mundo.
