The Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA) is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization comprised of hospitals, health systems, caregivers, related organizations, and other members with a common interest in promoting the good health of the people of the commonwealth. Through leadership in public advocacy, education, and information, MHA represents and advocates for the collective interests of its members and supports their efforts to provide high quality, cost effective and accessible care.

The Massachusetts Health Council (MHC) was founded in May of 1920 to respond to the tuberculosis epidemic of that era, promote preventative health care and support public health initiatives. Founding members included the Massachusetts Medical Society, American Red Cross, American Public Health Association, Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, Massachusetts Association of Directors of Public Health Nursing and Massachusetts Association of Boards of Health. MHC is the largest and the oldest health council in the country, working to create healthier individuals and communities by concentrating on pressing health care issues such as access to care, quality, cost, prevention and disparities. MHC is a non-profit, non-partisan statewide organization of more than 150 governmental and voluntary agencies, consumer and advocacy groups, professional societies and private corporations committed to improving and protecting the health of the citizens of the Commonwealth. MHC serves as a forum where health care leaders – often from opposing sides on health policy issues – come together to make a difference in improving health. MHC publishes the nationally recognized report, “Common Health for the Commonwealth: Massachusetts Trends in the Determinants of Health,” and was one of the first organizations in the country to highlight the importance of the social determinants of health in preventing disease and illness and enabling truly healthy communities.
