Macías Gómez & Asociados nace con el objetivo de transformar y dar a conocer una nueva rama del Derecho: El Derecho Ambiental Corporativo, el cual surge a partir del nuevo esquema institucional ambiental en Colombia creado en 1993. Luego de su experiencia como el primer jefe jurídico del entonces Ministerio del Medio Ambiente, Luis Fernando Macías Gómez, concibió la necesidad de crear una Firma especializada en Derecho Ambiental Corporativo, que buscara brindar una asesoría en el sector regulado, permitiendo la protección del medio ambiente a través de la defensa del orden jurídico. Así las cosas, en julio de 1997, Macías Gómez & Asociados se convirtió en la primera Firma especializada en Derecho Ambiental Corporativo del país, cuyo objetivo principal es definir estrategias jurídicas que le permitan al cliente defender sus intereses respetando el orden jurídico y protegiendo el medio ambiente. Esto permite minimizar los riesgos legales ambientales a los cuales se pueden ver avocados. Adicional a esto, Macías Gómez & Asociados, acompaña, asesora y establece estrategias jurídicas a sus clientes, dentro de litigios y procesos sancionatorios ambientales.
