The Department of Health and Human Services team contributes to the lives and health of Nebraskans every day. Our mission, “Helping people live better lives,” provides the motivation to make a difference. Some DHHS programs impact all Nebraskans; for example, we educate and protect people through public health activities like ensuring clean and safe drinking water and we license and certify all health care professionals. We also touch our state’s most vulnerable citizens. Our services assist the elderly, low income and those with disabilities; we provide safety to abused and/or neglected children and vulnerable adults; and thousands of Nebraskans rely on the services of our ten 24-hour facilities. We provide the framework for a workforce system that: Meets the needs of businesses by creating a comprehensive, community-based system of building a highly skilled workforce and a competitive state economy. Coordinates workforce development efforts to maximize the effectiveness of programs through workforce investment boards, advisory councils and partnerships with education, private-sector business and local governmental agencies. Matches eligible workers with jobs and provides support services to assist citizens in finding and retaining gainful employment. Administers unemployment tax and compensation programs. Provides universal access to an integrated array of labor market information and employment and training services through NEworks.nebraska.gov. Assists employers, employees and the general public through labor standards programs. Conducts inspections as required by law through various safety programs.

Training, Mentoring/Coaching, Technical Assistance, Micro and Small Business Loans up to $150K 2013 Jim Reiff, became Executive Director, and located in Omaha with staff. Today, NEF provides loan capital to businesses and programs across Nebraska. In addition to offering direct loans to businesses from $5,000 to $150,000, NEF collaborates with other lending programs or financial institutions when gap financing is needed. NEF offers Business Acumen Training a 5 week program. NEF has staff in Omaha, Oakland, North Platte and Norfolk. In 2000, Rose Jaspersen was then hired as Executive Director of the organization. NEF received public charity status from the Internal Revenue Service in 2008. Due to the growth of NEF and NCF it was decided to separate the two organizations at that time, allowing NEF to bring its bookkeeping in-house. The history of the Nebraska Enterprise Fund began in 1994. With multiple micro programs developing across the state at that time, it became apparent that there was a need for an organization to assist in procuring grant and loan funds to meet long-term operational and lending needs. Gene Severens set out to work on the design and development of the Nebraska Microenterprise Partnership Fund (NMPF), a statewide microenterprise intermediary, and served as the first director. NMPF's name was changed to Nebraska Enterprise Fund (NEF) in 2008, but the mission and purpose remained the same.

The Nebraska Health Care Association (NHCA) represents Nebraska’s continuum of care through a family associations united in their mission to serve Nebraskans: Nebraska Nursing Facility Association (NNFA), Nebraska Assisted Living Association (NALA), Nebraska Health Care Learning Center (NHCLC), and Nebraska Health Care Foundation (NHCF). NHCA is a nonprofit association committed to serving those who serve in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities across Nebraska.

The Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) is a statewide voluntary membership not-for-profit trade association representing Nebraska's hospitals and health systems. The NHA is governed by a 19 member board of directors and works closely with its membership to provide them with state and federal legislative advocacy, health care trend and regulatory information, educational programming, communication, data reports and special services. Members rely on the NHA for information, education, advice and collaborative leadership to advance Nebraska hospitals’ ability to provide exceptional health care. Hospitals are the stewards of good health. Through our partnerships with representatives in the health care industry, legislators, government and citizens, the NHA is able to assist in the development of strong, healthy communities. The mission of the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) is to be the influential and unified voice for the Nebraska’s hospitals and health systems, providing leadership and resources to enhance the delivery of quality patient care and services to Nebraska communities. By 2020, the Nebraska Hospital Association will have established partnerships with leaders and be the influential resource for improving Nebraska’s health care infrastructure and policies.
