The New Orleans Firemen's Federal Credit Union (NOFFCU) is the third oldest federally chartered credit union in existence in the United States today. In 1934, employees of the New Orleans Fire Department started this credit union to pool their resources and lend to each other when no one else would. They were tired of loan sharks charging them high interest and they were tired of being turned down for loans because of their hazardous occupation. In the early 1990s, the Board of Directors decided to expand our services and field of membership to other local employer groups. They wanted to ensure the future of the NOFFCU by diversifying and expanding the pool of potential members. Today, NOFFCU is a successful, stable, and growing financial institution. We serve over 27,000 members and have partnered with over 300 local companies to offer credit union services. We have nine full service branches located in Orleans, Jefferson, St James, Pearl River County, St. Tammany, Lafourche Parish, and Washington Parish.
