Newcastle-under-Lyme College is a highly successful college in North Staffordshire, with pass rates and student success levels amongst the best in the country. NULC provides a wide range of academic and vocational qualifications from entry to degree level. Full-time recruitment in exceeds targets, resulting in circa 3600 full time students. In addition we have 1500 adult learners, over 400 students on higher education programmes and 1000 apprentices. The College received a highly complementary Ofsted Report following an inspection in 2013. The Ofsted report rates Newcastle-under-Lyme College as good, with inspectors finding many outstanding areas. It places the College in the top five of colleges inspected by Ofsted in 2013 and marks NULC as the only college in Staffordshire/Stoke to have any outstanding provision. The inspection found three quarters of the classroom areas inspected merited an outstanding grade. These were Health and Social Care, Sport, Leisure and Recreation and Independent Living and Leisure. All four work-based learning areas inspected were judged as good. These were Engineering, Motor Vehicle, Business Administration and Accounting and Finance. The Diocese of Newcastle has a rich history, celebrating 175 years in the Newcastle region as the longest-serving church, founded by Bishop William Tyrrell in 1847. The Newcastle Anglican ministry meets the needs of our community through its agencies Anglican Care, Samaritans, and Newcastle Anglican Schools. As fresh expressions of church emerge in response to becoming a mission-shaped church, many of our parishes are progressing towards Ministering Communities in Mission. Samaritans have provided care in the community for 40 years, with over 500 staff in disability, youth, children's and community services. In addition, our volunteers, many of whom are parishioners, assist with emergency relief and recycling programs. They are a large part of our social welfare service, with over 400 individuals supporting it. Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group Pty Limited (NCIG) owns and operates one of Australia's major coal export terminals with proximate rail, storage and shiploading facilities and associated infrastructure. We are located on Kooragang Island at the Port of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia and are strategically placed at the mouth of the Hunter River, approximately 160 kilometres from Sydney. The Terminal is situated on an industrialised island and has strong logistical connections as part of the Hunter Valley Coal Chain integrated coal export infrastructure operation. NCIG services long life coal mines in the Newcastle, Hunter Valley, Gunnedah, Gloucester and Western Coalfields of New South Wales by providing access to port infrastructure to export their coal production. We form part of the export gateway for the substantial Hunter Valley coal industry, with the Port of Newcastle representing the export route for production in the region. Over 90% of coal exported through the NCIG Terminal is thermal coal to be supplied to established energy consumers in Asia such as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, with significant recent and forecast growth in exports to the developing economy of China.
