A Ophthal Hospital Especializado foi fundado em 1992. Após 25 anos, tornou-se um dos maiores grupos especializados em atendimento oftalmológico do Brasil. O grupo conta hoje com mais de 280 colaboradores que atuam em sete unidades, um Centro Cirúrgico e um Pronto Socorro, onde se realizam aproximadamente 15.000 consultas, 8.000 exames e mais de 600 cirurgias por mês. São mais de 60 médicos especializados e preparados para realizar todos os procedimentos cirúrgicos. Cinco unidades do Grupo Ophthal, incluindo o Centro Cirúrgico, receberam em janeiro de 2017 a certificação de Acreditado de acordo com as diretrizes da Organização Nacional de Acreditação (ONA). O hospital disponibiliza sua estrutura e recursos para contribuir com a iniciativa cientifica e no desenvolvimento de projetos de pesquisadores. Foi criado o comitê de ética em Pesquisa com Seres Humanos (CEP). O envio de projetos de pesquisa para apreciação deste CEP de se ser realizado por meio da Plataforma Brasil (http://aplicacao.saude.gov.br/plataformabrasil/login.jsf).
