Opta Minerals operates in two prime industry segments: abrasive products and services and steel mill and foundry products and services. From our roots providing sand to a local foundry in the 1880s, Opta has grown to an international group of companies in Canada, the United States and Europe, all committed to delivering optimal results for our customers. Our Abrasive Product segment manufactures, processes and distributes silica-free abrasives for blast cleaning, construction, water filtration and waterjet cutting. Loose abrasives are sold as blast-cleaning abrasives for marine, bridge and construction cleaning. We process blends of industrial minerals and specialty sands used primarily in industrial and construction applications. Our Steel Mill and Foundry Products segment processes and distributes industrial mineral products for the steel and foundry industry. This segment also sources and supplies Magnesium granules to the major steel mills to be used in the desulphurization process. Other Magnesium products, such as powders, raspings, chips and turnings, are developed and processed to service the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
