Pohjois-Karjalan hyvinvointialue – Siun sote huolehtii julkisista sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon, pelastustoimen ja ympäristöterveydenhuollon palveluista noin 163 400 pohjoiskarjalaiselle. Meillä on kaikkiaan noin 8000 hengen henkilöstö, ja toimimme Joensuun, Kiteen, Lieksan, Nurmeksen, Outokummun, Kontiolahden, Ilomantsin, Juuan, Liperin, Polvijärven, Rääkkylän, Tohmajärven ja Heinäveden alueella. Toimintamme tarkoitus on tukea, turvata ja tuottaa hyvinvointia, jotta Pohjois-Karjalassa olisi hyvä elää. Vaikuttavat ja laadukkaat palvelut tehdään yhdessä asukkaiden, ammattilaisten, kuntien, järjestöjen ja yritysten kanssa. Pohjatyö hyvinvointialueelle on tehty vuodesta 2017 alkaen toimineessa Siun sote -kuntayhtymässä. Palvelujen järjestämisvastuu ja henkilöstö siirtyvät 1.1.2023 alkaen Pohjois-Karjalan hyvinvointialueelle.

Pohjois-Karjalan maakuntaliitto on kuntayhtymä, jonka tehtävänä on lisätä Pohjois-Karjalassa asuvien hyvinvointia ja luoda hyvät edellytykset elinkeinoelämälle, koulutukselle ja tutkimukselle. Suunnittelemme, koordinoimme ja rahoitamme Pohjois-Karjalan kehittämistä yhteistyössä muiden toimijoiden kanssa. Vastaamme maakuntakaavoituksesta eli maankäytön yleispiirteisestä suunnittelusta. Vaikutamme siihen, että maakunnan näkemykset ja tarpeet huomioidaan kansallisessa ja kansainvälisessä päätöksenteossa. Vaalimme karjalaisia hyveitä eli hyväntahtoisuutta, yhteisöllisyyttä ja vieraanvaraisuutta. Tavoitteenamme on paikallisylpeyden, rohkeiden tekojen ja houkuttelevuuden lisääminen. Kannustamme kuuntelemaan sydämen ääntä, ja maakunnan yhteinen tavoite on, että kukaan ei jää yksin. Juhlistamme moni-ilmeistä Pohjois-Karjalaa vuosittain maakuntapäivänä. Toimistossamme työskentelee 45 henkilöä maakuntajohtaja Markus Hirvosen johdolla. Toimitilamme ovat Joensuun vanhimmassa kivirakennuksessa, Pielisjoen linnassa.
