At Prairie Crocus therapy, we provide evidence-based, individualized Occupational Therapy to help individuals engage in meaningful, productive lives. Often, when life is challenging, people stop doing the activities that are important for maintaining mental health. These activities are different for different people, but often include exercising, spending time with friends and family, taking care of yourself, and being productive. We follow a step-by-step program to help people identify what their values and goals are, develop a plan, start doing the things that are important to them, and work toward their goals. We concentrate on the present and are action-oriented. The strategies we utilize include behavioral activation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, graded exposure, and motivational interviewing. We are good at taking tasks that seem too big and overwhelming and breaking them down into small, just right challenges. We have experience working with insurers to help people prepare for a return to work after being off work for mental health reasons. Our services are based out of Winnipeg but we travel within Manitoba. We also provide services via telephone and the Internet. The prairie crocus is the first flower up in the spring and it is a symbol of hope. It is also a symbol of resilience. It manages to grow in adverse conditions and you can often see the beautiful blooms bursting through a layer of snow. After working in this field for many years, we have, time and again, been impressed by the resilience of people who have endured difficult situations.
