A leading, state-maintained and academically selective school for boys in North London. In 1573 Elizabeth I issued a Charter “for the establishment of the Free Grammar School of Queen Elizabeth in Barnet for the education, bringing up and instruction of boys in Grammar and other learning and the same to continue for ever.” Today QE remains a non-denominational, non-fee-paying, selective School with a mission of producing confident, able and responsible young men and, as such, continues to reflect the essential tenets of its Tudor Charter.
Set in more than 220 acres of beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, Queen Ethelburga’s has provided students with a vibrant and supportive school community since 1912. Queen Ethelburga’s is an Excellent rated Collegiate (ISI 2019). We are known locally, nationally, and internationally as a group of four schools that promotes the highest standards in all that it does. The Collegiate welcomes girls and boys from 3 months and supports them through four schools – Chapter House (3 months to Year 5), King’s Magna (Year 6 to 9), The College and The Faculty (both Year 10 to 13). This unique make up of four smaller schools is designed to maintain a nurturing family atmosphere and some individuality, each having their own Heads and Staff teams. This allows the staff to know students thoroughly and form outstanding student teacher relationships based on mutual respect and unwavering support. QE’s Hill Standard is ‘To be the best that I can with the gifts that I have’ providing every child with a springboard to their individual successes, whichever pathway they choose. We place great emphasis on our children growing into resilient, caring, compassionate and confident adults, who develop independence and initiative, and who can take responsibility for their own learning and futures. Our exam results speak for themselves, consistently ranking us amongst the top day and boarding schools in the UK, with students benefiting from incredible study, boarding and leisure facilities as part of campus life. Alongside academic success, at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate (QE) we aim to provide a holistic education which supports students to develop their knowledge, skills, and experience beyond the classroom. We provide a broad enrichment curriculum to ensure students become well-rounded individuals, gaining skills in leadership and teamwork, as well as developing self-confidence and self-awareness, respect for others, and their environment.

Queen Margaret College is Wellington’s leading independent girls’ school. We provide a world class education for girls from Year 1–13 and also have a co-educational Preschool and boarding facility onsite. Our students are empowered to live, learn and lead in our holistic environment, which provides ample opportunities in leadership, sport and cultural activities. Although our school is built on the values of Presbyterianism we welcome girls from all religions and backgrounds. We believe in the importance of girls’ education. Our College is small enough to ensure every girl is appreciated as an individual but sufficiently large enough to offer a full range of subjects, along with a range of sporting and cultural activities. As a school, we constantly challenge ourselves to ask, what impact we are having on our learners, how we are going and where to next. Similarly to the futures of our students, the school’s possibilities are endless, and together we strive to develop the dispositions and skills necessary for us to remain leaders in the education of young women from New Zealand and around the world. In 2018, we opened our dedicated boarding facility, Queen Margaret House, providing the only onsite accommodation for domestic and international young women wishing to study in Wellington. Our goal of being a school with an international reputation is truly enhanced by this magnificent addition to our school.
