La SOGEPA a pour objet l’accomplissement de toutes les missions qui lui sont confiées par le Gouvernement conformément au décret du 6 mai 1999. Plus particulièrement, elle assure la mise en oeuvre des décisions prises par le Gouvernement wallon quant à des interventions dans des sociétés commerciales et la gestion de ces interventions. En outre, elle est l’outil privilégié de la politique de la Région wallonne dans le secteur sidérurgique. Pour les interventions réalisées à la demande du Gouvernement wallon, la SOGEPA remplit deux types de tâches particulières : - l’analyse et l’expression d’un avis préalable à une décision éventuelle du Gouvernement wallon ; - l’exécution et le suivi des décisions prises par le Gouvernement wallon. Dans le cadre de l’exécution des décisions du Gouvernement wallon, les services de la SOGEPA sont amenés à négocier et à élaborer des conventions d’actionnaires et/ou de prêt, dans le respect des conditions éventuellement précisées dans la décision gouvernementale d’intervention. Le suivi des interventions implique, en principe la présence de la SOGEPA et de ses collaborateurs aux conseils d'administration des sociétés bénéficiant d'intervention et ce, au titre tantôt d'administrateur, tantôt d'observateur. Il implique également la participation aux assemblées générales et, de manière générale, le suivi régulier des intérêts de la Région wallonne.
