St Margaret's Hospice Care

St Margaret’s Hospice Care is a registered charity which has been at the heart of Somerset’s community, making each day count for over 40 years. We strive to delivery of high quality, responsive, compassionate care to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness. Through our medical expertise, nursing skills and specialist support services, we provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to over 5,000 patients and their families each year. We put our patients at the heart of all we do; treating symptoms, controlling pain and caring for their emotional, psychological and spiritual needs. We support the whole family through a wide range of services such as intensive care in our In-patient Units, care at home, complimentary therapies and bereavement support for those who need it. We also support a wide range of support to carers, young and old. We provide care and support for families and friends for as long as they need us. We rely on over 1,200 volunteers to help deliver our care. Hospices are normally associated with cancer. We care for anyone with a life-limiting illness including motor-neurone disease, cardiac failure, renal failure, chronic respiratory disease and other life-limiting conditions. We provide our services for free. St Margaret’s is a charity – we are not part of the NHS. Our income comes from the NHS and charitable sources from our local community. It costs over £7.5m each year to deliver our care. We are dependent upon the generosity of our Somerset community.

St Margaret's School for Girls

primary/secondary education

The only girls’ school in Aberdeen, St Margaret’s has around 370 pupils ranging in age from 3 to 18. Our school is large enough to offer flexibility and choice in terms of the curriculum and extra-curricular activities, but small enough to ensure that each girl is well known within a friendly and family atmosphere. St Margaret’s staff are experts in teaching girls and are committed to supporting each girl to be all that she can be both inside and outside the classroom. At St Margaret’s we have specialised in girls’ education since 1846. We believe that a single- sex education offers girls the space in which their intellectual and physical identity can blossom, a space which is free from stereotype, full of challenge and rich with opportunity and care. It is in this sort of environment that girls can develop the self-esteem and confidence which will enable them to fulfil their potential and make a positive impact on the world. We provide our pupils at all ages and stages with a rich variety of extra-curricular opportunities. Music, sport, debating, drama, dance, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and many other activities are available. These are enjoyable in themselves, but they also help girls to develop the skills and personal qualities which they will require to be successful and happy beyond school. At St Margaret’s we are not complacent: we are continually refining and developing our provision to meet the changing needs of our pupils and the demanding world of the twenty-first century.
