Het Westfriesgasthuis is een algemeen, regionaal opleidingsziekenhuis met een opnamecapaciteit van 506 erkende bedden en ongeveer 258.000 polikliniekbezoeken per jaar. In de medische staf zijn 26 specialismen vertegenwoordigd. Het ziekenhuis biedt een gevarieerd en compleet pakket aan zorg. Samenwerkingsverbanden bestaan met zowel perifere als academische ziekenhuizen in de provincie. Ook wordt grote nadruk gelegd op goede samenwerking met de eerste lijn, met de thuiszorg, verzorgingshuizen en verpleeghuizen en met andere transmurale dienstverleners. In het Westfriesgasthuis staan gastvrijheid en kwaliteit hoog in het vaandel. Er is oog voor de belangen van de individuele patiënt. Het Westfriesgasthuis is in 1985 ontstaan uit een fusie van het Streekziekenhuis West-Friesland en het Sint Jans Gasthuis. In mei 2004 is de concentratienieuwbouw van het ziekenhuis op de locatie aan de Maelsonstraat te Hoorn officieel geopend. Aan en om het gebouw van het oude St. Jans Gasthuis is een nieuw ziekenhuis neergezet, met daarin volledig nieuwe onderzoeks- en behandelfaciliteiten (OK, ICU, CCU, röntgen, SEH, apotheek, PA-laboratorium, poliklinieken en functieafdelingen).
