Stop Ecocide Danmark er den danske gren af den internationale kampagne, der har til formål at gøre ecocide til en international forbrydelse ved Den Internationale Straffedomstol i Haag. Ecocide er bevidst ødelæggelse af naturen på stor skala - ofte med profit for øje. I 2021 kom en uafhængig ekspertgruppe med et forslag til en juridisk definition af ecocide, som på dansk lyder således: Ecocide er ulovlige eller hensynsløse gerninger udført velvidende, at der er væsentlig sandsynlighed for alvorlige og enten udbredte eller langvarige ødelæggelser af miljøet forårsaget af disse gerninger. Formålet med at få gjort ecocide til en international forbrydelse på linje med folkedrab, krigsforbrydelser, aggressionsforbrydelser og forbrydelser mod menneskeheden er, at sikre at det nødvendige retsgrundlag er til stede for at kunne retsforfølge de ansvarlige personer. For som det er i dag, går de ansvarlige alt for ofte fri for straf. Men det ultimative formål er helt at undgå, at ecocide overhovedet forekommer. Det kan imidlertid kun ske, hvis der er en tilstrækkelig potent international sanktionsmulighed, som er så tilpas afskrækkende, at ecocide ikke længere "kan betale sig". Derfor arbejder vi i Stop Ecocide Danmark på, dels at udbrede kendskabet til ecocide i Danmark, og dels at få de danske politikere til aktivt at støtte det internationale arbejde med at få ecocide anerkendt i Norden, EU og endelig i Rom-statutten - grundlaget for Den Internationale Straffedomstol.
