Science Gallery Detroit, part of Michigan State University, is an informal learning space that connects science, art and technology. Science Gallery Detroit is raising funds to open an official space in Detroit. In leading up to our official opening, we host annual pop-up style exhibitions and several events throughout the Detroit and Lansing area. Science Gallery is the world's only university network dedicated to public engagement through science and art. Science Gallery Detroit is the first and only Gallery in North America and joins network partners in London, Dublin, Venice, Bengaluru, Rotterdam, and Melbourne. Each Science Gallery consist of the following unique factors: 1. A SPACE FOR EXPERIMENTATION We don’t have a permanent collection. Instead we’ll present an ever-changing program of participatory exhibitions and events making every visit a unique experience. 2. AN OPEN CALL PROCESS We encourage anyone interested, especially artists and scientists, to submit proposals for our exhibitions during our open calls. Our expert curators will select the best ideas to complement our commissioned work. 3. A FOCUS ON YOUNG ADULTS Although everyone is welcome, we aim to reach young people ages 15-25, as we want young adults to have the opportunity to engage with new ideas. 4. LINKING THE UNIVERSITY TO THE CITY AND LOCAL COMMUNITY Through our exhibitions and events we facilitate an interdisciplinary dialogue between university researchers, scientists, artists and the local community. 5. DRAWING ON INNOVATION Science Gallery Detroit is part of Michigan State University's The Hub for Innovation in Learning and Technology. 6. THE MEDIATORS This group of young adults bring our exhibitions to life through storytelling, interactive and informal learning experiences. Our mediators consists of a rotating group of young adults with an interest in science and art. 7. FREE ENTRY All Science Gallery Detroit exhibitions and programs are free and open to all.

These three essential questions form the basis of instruction at the Science Leadership Academy (SLA), a Philadelphia high school opened in September 2006. SLA is built on the notion that inquiry is the very first step in the process of learning. Developed in partnership with The Franklin Institute and its commitment to inquiry-based science, SLA provides a vigorous, college-preparatory curriculum with a focus on science, technology, mathematics, and entrepreneurship. Students at SLA learn in a project-based environment where the core values of inquiry, research, collaboration, presentation, and reflection are emphasized in all classes. The structure of the Science Leadership Academy reflects its core values, with longer class periods to allow for more laboratory work in science classes and performance-based learning in all classes. In addition, students in the upper grades have more flexible schedules to allow for opportunities for dual enrollment programs with area universities and career development internships in laboratory and business settings, as well as with The Franklin Institute.
