Our Speciality We build highly-insulated and energy-efficient homes, at affordable prices. We enable people to live off the grid and to generate excess power. This excess power can easily be used to power surrounding properties and communities. The beauty of this is that we can diminish our reliance on Eskom. Our products are viable, sustainable, legally compliant and supported by the banking and building industry, including the NHBRC. Our Founder Brett Petzer has over 20 years’ experience in the property industry. He is a highly skilled real estate developer and seller, including selling of real estate in the prestigious Michelangelo Towers in Sandton - a Legacy Hotels development. Brett’s experience and skill set includes identifying real estate opportunities, conceptualising property development plans and building to the highest green building standards in the country have resulted in the construction of over 100 residential estates. The concept of an “off the grid” housing development occurred to him after he bought a large tract of land and was unable to develop due to Eskom’s moratorium on supplying power to new developments at that time. Having to pay rates on the land and service the loan was a costly experience during which time he came up with The Green Housing concept. “I watched solar technology developing and thought what would define our company and product would be not just to offer buyers a solar assisted house but the opportunity to live free of the grid and the problems associated with power delivery”,

The Green Matter is a youth-led research and solution-centric organisation that seeks to address the symbiotic relationship between environmental and economic interests. However, in the contemporary scenario, economic growth often happens at the cost of the environment, the irrevocable effects of which are gradually amounting to catastrophes. Hence, we have adopted an approach of “development with conservation”, instead of the mainstream approach of development vs conservation. Through analysis, we seek to understand economics in the context of the environment. Our vision is for society to realise that stable economic growth paired with a sustainable approach is not only attainable, but the only way forward. With the help of compelling theories and practical solutions to climate related risks, we hope to uncomplicate the path of ‘going green’ in a largely profit-driven world. We strive to bring the benefits of an environmentally conscious perspective to the forefront and stimulate a dialogue among students and professionals alike.

Founded in 2009, The GREEN Program (TGP) is an award-winning, experiential education program focused on our world’s most pressing issues in sustainable development. Our mission is to educate and empower future sustainability leaders through experiential education, responsible travel, and adventure. We provide short-term, accredited programs in our world's epicenters of sustainability. By using the world as our classroom, our model expertly balances university-accredited course work, exclusive industry access, and bucket-list adventures. Beyond our program experience, we are one of the only program providers to offer leadership and career development opportunities after students return home. In fact, 95% of TGP alumni stay engaged in sustainability efforts and have gone on to work for forward-thinking companies such as NASA, the United Nations, NREL, EPA, National Geographic, Google, GE, and more. Since 2009, we have traveled with more than 3,200 interdisciplinary student leaders and young professionals from 400+ universities and 70 countries around the world. Our programs provide hands-on, global experiences at the fraction of the time and cost of traditional study abroad.
