Lacking vital literacy skills holds a person back at every stage of their life beyond primary school. "As a child they won't be able to succeed at school, as a young adult they will be locked out of the job market, and as a parent they won't be able to support their own child's learning. This intergenerational cycle makes social mobility and a fairer society more difficult"​ (National Literacy Trust, 2017). Despite our best efforts, a disadvantaged child in England is still more than twice as likely as their classmates from more advantaged homes to leave primary school without reaching the expected levels in reading and writing. The Latin Programme embraces a non-traditional approach to literacy in which songs, games and raps encourage students to understand complex grammatical material in both Latin and English.

The Latymer School is a high achieving, selective grammar school with a great tradition of success; we aim to provide a first class education for all our students. We also feel it is important to develop students outside of the classroom and offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and trips including visits to our own residential centre in Cwm Penmachno, Wales. Secondary education represents a major stage in the life of each young person and so we aim to work together with parents, carers, governors and the local community to support our young people; enabling them to develop and grow within this community and in building together a real sense of identity within The Latymer School. Our motto is ‘who endeavours wins’ and that sums up the ethos we wish to build within our school community; life is not always straight forward and we encourage our students to persist, to keep trying and then success will come.

The Laughter Lounge opened it's doors in Dublin in December 1997 and quickly established itself as Ireland's premier comedy venue.
