The Moment Group of Restaurants

In the summer of 2012, Abba Napa, Eliza Antonino, and Jon Syjuco teamed up to form The Moment Group, believing that Manila’s dining scene was “having a moment.” Backed by sound business sense and a keen understanding of the Filipino diner’s evolving tastes, they created and opened their first three restaurants within eight months of each other. Since then, Moment has gone on to build homegrown brands and enter into partnerships that have drawn lines, caught media attention, generated market demand, and prompted loyal patrons. In its first decade in F&B, Moment has established 13 home-grown food brands, under which 56 doors have collectively been opened in and outside of Metro Manila. These include Manam Comfort Filipino, 8Cuts Burgers, Ooma Bold Japanese, Mo’ Cookies, HuChi Southeast Eats, Shawa Wama, The Mess Hall, Moment Catering, Bank Bar, Manam’s Mama Nams, and the delivery-only Pancit Pancitan and Cuckoo Chicken. Apart from this, Moment also owns, manages, and operates the Philippine franchise of the world-famous xiaolongbao brand, Din Tai Fung. Moment has also launched its own in-house delivery website (and app) momentfood.com, which is supported by an in-house fleet called Mo'Go.

Our Story Momently stems from personal experiences of the founders during their time at university Like most university students, we were very engaged in our enrolled courses. We made good friends, gained knowledge, completed the course and graduated. Looking back, we realised that something was missing. And it wasn’t just us in that boat. Building a better experience As students, we are naturally so involved in our course that we don’t realise the potential that lies outside that small bubble. Imagine the endless opportunities to connect with students studying in the other building of your university. Actually, why limit this? How about we connect you with students from other universities? Can you imagine the opportunities this will unlock? Business School with the Department of Financial Studies; the Computing Department with School of Medicine; Engineering Department with School of Mathematics. These are only a few examples of potential opportunities. The questions we should be asking ourselves: “When was the last time I learnt something from another student outside of my course about a new topic and also shared my knowledge with others?” “What are the opportunities to work with other students locally to build something or experiment an idea?” “When did I last socialise with new students in the city?” “Could I explore synergies with students for my venture?” “How can I use my time more productively in an academic environment?” “Wouldn’t it be great to learn about other academic views on a particular subject?” In theory, there are no limits to connections you can make for social, professional and collaborative purposes. Mission & Vision At Momently, we are on a mission to build an amazing student experience. Whether that is getting you to meet new students to discuss a project, share knowledge, organise events, unlock synergies to find co-founders, find room mates (or a gym partner?), or simply meet for a coffee (or a beer?), we have lots of ideas that will add value and make your daily university schedule productive and exciting. We firmly believe that the networks we form at university are the most important as opportunities to work together creatively, with freedom of flexibility that is far greater at universities. Our long-term vision is to build a global student ecosystem where students across the world will connect with each other without any barriers of university, course being studied or the location. Instead, the focus will be on how the connected students will benefit from each other’s skills, knowledge and interests to make the world better. We are building a platform that allows students to connect with other students locally in real time to discuss their findings, projects, ideas and startups before we gradually scale and leave a global footprint.
