Nedlac is a statutory body that was established through the Nedlac Act No. 35 of 1994 and operates under the terms of its own Nedlac Constitution. The Nedlac Act therefore legislatively articulates Nedlac’s mandate. In this regard, and in terms of the Act, Nedlac’s objectives are to: • Strive to promote the goals of economic growth, participation in economic decision-making and social equity. • Seek to reach consensus and conclude agreements on matters pertaining to social and economic policy. • Consider all proposed labour legislation relating to labour market policy before it is introduced in Parliament. • Consider all significant changes to social and economic policy before they are implemented or introduced in Parliament. • Encourage and promote the formulation of co-ordinated policy on social and economic matters. • Consider socio-economic disputes in terms of section 77 of the Labour Relations Act (LRA).

The National Flood Forum is a national charity dedicated to supporting and representing communities and individuals at risk of flooding. We do this by: • Helping people to prepare for flooding in order to prevent it or mitigate its impacts • Helping people to recover their lives once they have been flooded • Campaigning on behalf of flood risk communities and working with government and agencies to ensure that they develop a community perspective. “When you have watched in disbelief water coming into your house, and there’s nothing you can do about it, it’s always at the back of your mind” says Vicky. “It’s like a cloud that’s always hanging over us.” 1 in 6 homes in the UK are at serious risk of flooding, that’s 5.2 million households. It can take up to two years for homes to dry out and be restored and during this time, many families live in temporary accommodation. The process is stressful, time consuming and simply beyond some people, particularly those who are elderly or vulnerable. The dread of flooding again can cause long term distress and mental health problems. Despite this, many people are unprepared for the trauma of losing their home and possessions. The National Housing Trust (NHT), Jamaica was established in 1976 through an amendment to the National Insurance Act of 1976. We are entrusted with the mission of increasing and enhancing the stock of available housing in Jamaica as well as providing financial assistance to the most needy of our Contributors who wish to build, to buy or to repair their homes. The NHT also has a mandate to generate funding for the housing construction sector and to promote improved building systems and greater efficiency within the industry.
