The Petroleum Institute (PI) is a research-driven institution specializing in hydrocarbon exploration and production. The PI is a part of Khalifa University of Science and Technology. The PI is committed to producing internationally recognized graduates and focused research to advance innovative solutions for the energy sector. Its academic activities and its fundamental and applied research serve the oil, gas and energy sectors' need for talent, solutions and advanced technical innovations that contribute to the UAE society and economy. The PIs sponsors and affiliates include the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and four major international oil companies; BP, Japan Oil Development Company (JODCO), Shell and Total. The campus has modern instructional laboratories and classroom facilities and now hosts a state-of-the-art research centre, the ADNOC Research and Innovation Centre, which began operation in August 2016. The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum was founded by Texas oilman George T. Abell in 1975. The Museum is one of the largest in the country dedicated to the petroleum industry and its pioneers, and has expanded its offering to include a Transportation Wing, featuring the world-renowned Chaparral Car Gallery, as well as one of the state's largest mineral galleries. Through education, technology, and community leadership, the Petroleum Museum continues to serve the Permian Basin community as an evolving resource for the petroleum industry and honors the individuals that have helped create its rich history.
