Reef-World’s vision is to make sustainable diving and snorkelling the social norm by inspiring and empowering the community of divers, snorkellers and related businesses, in order to achieve conservation impact on the ground and preserve coral reefs around the world. Our work has been proven to reduce threats to, and protect, one of the world’s most valuable ecosystems: coral reefs. By inspiring, educating and empowering the people who live with and rely on coral reefs to take a stand in the front lines of ocean conservation, we are making a tangible difference to the protection of these delicate ecosystems. As a charity, we are recognised as the leading voice on practical sustainability solutions for the scuba diving and snorkelling industry; driving sustainable behaviours for environmental protection. We lead the global implementation of the UN Environment’s Green Fins initiative, which focuses on driving environmentally friendly scuba diving and snorkelling practices across the industry globally. The initiative leads to a measurable reduction in the negative environmental impacts associated with the marine tourism industry. Green Fins also encourages and empowers members of the diving industry to act to reduce the pressures on coral reefs by offering dive and snorkel companies practical, low-cost alternatives to harmful practices - such as anchoring, fish feeding and chemical pollution – as well as providing strategic training, support and resources. By reducing the local direct and indirect pressures tourism puts on coral reefs, it helps make corals healthier and more resilient to other stresses such as the effects of climate change.

The Refuge is a Christian Ministry in Columbus, Ohio offering free drug and alcohol rehab. Our 13-month Men's Ministry and 12-month Women's Ministry have helped thousands of people who were struggling with addiction to transform their lives. Founded in 1999 as a simple residential ministry in rural Vinton County, Ohio, The Refuge continues to grow and expand to serve not only the 75+ men and women in our 5 locations across central Ohio, but their families, churches and communities as well. The residential ministry has had the honor of helping more than 5,000 people enter a brand new life - free from addiction and on their way to becoming better citizens, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, fathers, and mothers. The Refuge has seen tremendous growth as a hub of discipleship and transformation, and we trust God to continue to use us to “...bring Good News to the poor...to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free…”

The Refuge Center for Counseling opened in December 2005 as the vision of its founders Amy Alexander and Jennifer Gillett. Amy and Jennifer had a strong desire to serve their area of residence—Williamson County—which is recognized for its wealth, oftentimes overshadowing those who are in need. To live among great prosperity and to be in need is often to feel invisible. The Refuge Center’s mission was clear from the beginning—to offer affordable, professional counseling services in order to empower, educate and support individuals, couples and families in need. Amy and Jennifer had discovered that there were few opportunities for affordable counseling in the area, as many local therapists charge $160 – $225 per session. They wanted to offer therapy to those who could not afford those fees, so they created a sliding-scale fee structure that ranges from $19 – $125 per session and is based on each individual’s income level. The name for the center was inspired by a passage in Isaiah which says, “It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and a hiding place from the storm and the rain.” (Isaiah 4:6) Beyond being a place to receive affordable and professional counseling services, The Refuge Center has also become a place where people are able to find hope and healing from the storms of their daily lives. In its first year, the Refuge Center provided 516 counseling sessions for 90 people and has grown every year since, providing more than 38,000 counseling sessions to 4,000 people in 2022.  We have also expanded services in recent years to include NeuroFeedback and Music Therapy. 

The Refuge for DMST™ (Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has developed The Refuge Ranch, a long-term, residential, therapeutic community for 48 girls, minors through age 19, who have been rescued out of sex trafficking. Built from the ground up on 50 acres in a beautiful and restorative setting outside of Austin, TX, The Refuge Ranch provides trauma-informed, holistic care for the girls on site, including: psychiatric services from Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Psychiatry and the Institute for Early Life Adversity Research; education through the University of Texas-University Charter School (UT-UCS); medical services by community partners; and various therapeutic programs uniquely designed for the development of a child survivor. The Refuge Ranch is the largest long-term, live-in rehabilitation facility for child survivors of sex trafficking in the United States. For more information, go to www.therefugedmst.org.
