Our Vision is to mobilize the Southern data science community to collectively accelerate scientific discovery and innovation, spur economic development in the region, broaden participation and diversity in data science, and address societal challenges affecting the Southern United States. At this moment, businesses, researchers, governments, and individuals are creating digital data at an unprecedented pace. However, the great challenge is how to harness these large, complex data sets and research findings into economic growth and positive impacts for people and communities. The South Hub builds the necessary bridges and acts as a community convener, collaboration hub, and catalyst for data science innovation, through education, funding support, and collective action. The Hub also amplifies the successes of the community, provides programs and funding, as well as shares credit across the community to encourage collaboration and mutual success toward shared Goals and Priority Areas The South Hub serves the Southern U.S. Census Region (i.e. 16 States: Delaware - Texas, including Washington DC, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and territories). It is part of a network of four regional Big Data Hubs, launched by the National Science Foundation including the Midwest, Northeast, and West Big Data Hubs, to engage local or regional stakeholders, e.g., city, county, and state governments, local industry, and nonprofits, and regional academic institutions, in big data research, and permit a focus on regional issues. The Hubs are funded in part by host universities and other partners. The South Big Data Innovation Hub is managed jointly by the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the South Hub provides critical infrastructure for the transition of Big Data to Benefits—with more than 1300+ members from universities, corporations, foundations, and cities committing their support.

We are The South West Food Collective, a newly created charity that collects surplus food from a range of suppliers and redistributes it to charities in the South West, completely free of charge. With the success of our partnership last year with Bestival, where we collected and saved over two thousand pounds worth of produce after the festival, we will be back at Bestival this August 2018, and are looking for more festivals or events that might be interested in working with us over the festival period. As well as collecting from vendors, we also collect any surplus that customers might have after the event/festival which has a threefold benefit - alleviating the customers need to carry excess food home, helping to clear the site and also of course, for the charities who will receive the surplus food at the end. We are always interested in talking to new partners or collaborators to work with. The mission of SAISC is to develop and promote the health and wealth of the steel construction industry in Southern Africa. The SAISC provides: TECHNICAL SUPPORT With over 60 years worth of local, Southern African project case studies and access to experienced and qualified individuals, the SAISC is well placed to assist with technical queries relating to Steel Construction and Structural Engineering. MARKETING AND PUBLICITY Since the association’s inception in 1959 as the “Structural Steel Publicity and Advancement Association”, our primary objective has been to sing the praises of all players in the industry, while extolling the virtues of structural steel. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND NETWORKING The SAISC has a wide range of CPD credit-bearing training courses aimed at young engineers. These courses incorporate face to face workshop sessions, video modules, and practical assignments. In addition to our training courses, we host business breakfasts, networking cocktail events, golf days and of course our annual Steel Awards gala events. ADVOCACY AND LOBBYING As a neutral party with members in all functions and levels within the Southern African steel construction industry, the SAISC strives to achieve its goal of a sustainable, healthy and wealthy industry for all players. We endeavor to facilitate opportunities for members to engage in an open, respectful and robust discussion where the end goal is for the industry as a whole to survive and thrive. We invest great time and effort in engaging all levels of government on behalf of the steel construction industry to ensure that our members’ concerns are escalated and that policymakers are made aware of practical implications.
