TÜBİTAK SAGE SAVUNMA SANAYİİ ARAŞTIRMA VE GELİŞTİRME ENSTİTÜSÜ Enstitü 1972 yılında Güdümlü Araçlar Teknolojisi ve Ölçüm Merkezi (GATÖM) adı ile kurulmuş, 1983 yılında Balistik Araştırma Enstitüsü (BAE), 1988 yılında ise Savunma Sanayii Araştırma ve Geliştirme Enstitüsü (SAGE) adını almıştır. SAGE Ankara’da Lalahan, Beşevler ve Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi olmak üzere üç yerleşkede çalışmalarını sürdürmektedir. Enstitü’nün ülküsü, savunma teknolojilerinde Türkiye’yi bağımsız kılmaktır. Enstitü’nün görevi, savunma sanayiine rekabet gücü ve katma değeri yüksek teknoloji, ürün ve hizmetleri AR-GE yoluyla sağlamaktır. Enstitü, çalışmalarında Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri ve ulusal savunma sanayii kuruluşlarının araştırma gereksinimlerini gözetme, TÜBİTAK’a yaraşır bir bilimsel araştırma ortamı yaratma, ulusal kaynakların elden geldiğince kullanılması konusunda yaratıcılığı özendirme ilkelerini göz önünde tutar. Bu amaç çerçevesinde Enstitü’nün temel görevi, Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri ve ulusal savunma sanayii kuruluşlarının belirlediği gereksinimleri karşılamak üzere gerektiğinde yurt içi ve dışı kuruluşlar ile iş birliği yaparak araştırma, geliştirme çalışmaları yapmaktır. TÜBİTAK SAGE araştırma projeleri ile bilgi birikimini arttırmakta; geliştirme projeleri ile yazılım ve donanım tasarlamakta ve geliştirmekte; inceleme, ölçüm ve danışmanlık projeleri ile hizmet sağlamakta ve sunmayı hedeflediği üstün nitelikli ürün ve hizmetlerin gerektirdiği altyapıları da altyapı projeleri ile kazanmaktadır. TÜBİTAK SAGE, Millî Savunma Bakanlığı, Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri, Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı ve çeşitli savunma sanayii kuruluşları ile projeler yürütmektedir. TÜBİTAK SAGE, kurulduğu ilk günden bu yana ağırlıklı olarak güdümlü/güdümsüz mühimmatlar ve füze sistemleri üzerine çalışmış; savunma sanayiine ürün, bilgi, altyapı ve nitelikli insan gücü kazandırmıştır.
